THE first phase of a multi-milion-pound redevelopment of Harrogate's Crown Hotel has been successfully completed by its new owners.
What was formerly Courts Bar, situated on the side of the impressive Grade II Listed building, is officially re-opening today as The Place.
The bar, which is catering for an over-21 age group, is also operating a no-smoking policy well ahead of Government legislation coming into effect next year.
Late last year, The Crown Hotel was bought by a private consortium headed by businessman Peter Grazier, who immediately announced ambitious plans for the 120-bedroomed hotel - beginning with structural and health and safety aspects, as well as transforming the bar into The Place.
Mr Grazier, who has worked at a senior level for Bass and Holiday Inn, said: "The Crown Hotel was once one of Harrogate's finest establishments, and over the next few years it's our intention to restore it to its rightful place. We have some very big plans for The Crown, and The Place marks completion of phase one. We have begun working on upgrading the guest bedrooms which will be done at a rate of 20 at a time, as well as turning our attention on the public rooms."
