AFTER reading readers' letters (KitKat Quality On The Decline, March 7): I worked at Rowntree's, then at Nestl, for 24 years.

We had charge-hands and over-lookers then, who had worked their way up from the shop floor and who knew everything about chocolate. Wafers had to be perfect, even the wrappers.

Then in came team leaders. That's when things really changed, as they had not worked in a chocolate factory before. All they were interested in was how much production they could get out, not the quality.

You are better off with the old, not the new. Rowntree's was a wonderful place to work, the figurehead of York. What a shame.
