Big rewards are in the pipeline for volunteer Lancealotto agents and the club at York City Knights.

The Lancealotto was launched this week - a brand new scheme offering Knights fans the chance to win big prizes and raise cash for the club.

It costs £1 a week for five numbers and replaces the old lottery that used to generate small donations to the club but where winners were from all over the country.

Options to pay include a one-off or quarterly payment by cheque, postal order or credit card; monthly by standing order; or door-to-door agents collecting cash weekly.

Agent benefits include free tickets to certain first-team and all academy home games and priority tickets for all big games. Special offers at selected restaurants, on vehicle rental and flowers are also included - plus commission.

For that, they need to enrol at least ten customers to the scheme.

An agent with ten members effectively gets their own Lancealotto numbers free with a ten per cent commission, 20 customers brings 12 per cent and more than that offers 20 per cent.

But, while agents stand to benefit from the system, the club is also encouraging customers to sign up through other methods to maximise potential.

Operations manager Chris Clinton said: "Because there's no profit involved, all the commission comes out of the takings. So if people can afford to pay it in one go or monthly, there's more going to be left over at the end to go into the club coffers.

"Not everyone's made of money but for a lot of people, it's a pint of beer a week for that amount and there's money going back into the club."
