There's a lot of adverse publicity about the police. Let me tell you about an experience I had.

On a Saturday night, on our drive, my car had been tampered with and some petrol had apparently been siphoned off.

I reported this on the basis that if anything else happened either to me or near neighbours, there was a record on police files. I was duly allocated an incident number. Imagine my surprise when, a couple of hours later, an extremely pleasant young WPC turned up to get all the information regarding this incident. She took time to talk things through, even asked if we needed Victim Support to call. Well, no, we didn't, but thanks so much for asking. When I asked why the visit for what appears to be something minor, I was told that all this information is collated to see if any pattern emerges in the area, in which case further action could be taken and the culprits apprehended, with a bit of luck. Now that is service.

Second, doesn't the approach to the city along Malton Road look beautiful with the daffodils in full bloom? But when, oh when, is there going to be a permanent road surface?

Since the bus lane was installed the road has been left in an appalling condition with lumps, bumps and holes.

There have been various roadworks from the Huntington lights towards town, so isn't it time the rest of it was properly surfaced down to the Stockton Lane roundabout? The road is mainly used by motorists. For what is paid firstly for the vehicle and then the unending taxes, we deserve proper road surfaces, not roads that are left to deteriorate into virtual cart-tracks.
