It's 'Family Day' at Wetherby tomorrow, with the added attraction of a race with some 50 runners.
The Mascot Steeplechase, organised by the Yorkshire Young Farmers' Clubs, will take place over a number of obstacles spanning the final furlong of the course and is sure to be a closely-fought affair. It is probably just as well that I am not required to provide a tip for this particular event.
On to the main action, and the highlight of the seven-race card is the £10,000 David & Clare April Fools' Wedding Day Handicap Chase over an extended three miles.
Preference here is for Darina's Boy, who hails from the Bingley yard of Sue Smith, and who returned from a winter break to score in determined style at Haydock recently.
The ten-year-old has made great strides in the last 12 months and looks up to defying top-weight in this competitive event. Dominic Elsworth has the mount on tomorrow's nap selection.
The 'Go Racing In Yorkshire' Racecard Competition Handicap Chase offers Jodante the chance to complete a hat-trick of wins.
Richard Guest's charge is clearly in great heart and although he is set to carry 12st 4lb here, his trainer has granted the mount to John Flavin, a conditional jockey, attached to his yard, who is able to claim the maximum allowance of 10lb. It promises to prove crucial in providing Jodante with the opportunity of obliging again.
Colway Ritz should not be overlooked in the Wetherby Races Next Thursday Evening Amateur Riders' Handicap Hurdle.
Although now 12 years old and in the twilight of his career, Colway Ritz, formerly a decent handicapper on the Flat for trainer Wilf Storey, retains a fair level of ablity, as he showed when winning at Catterick on his latest start. He can make the most of his light weight tomorrow.
Tomorrow's Flat action comes from Brighton, where Pressure Putt is fancied to defy top-weight in the Beck's Vier Handicap over seven furlongs.
The three-year-old demonstrated a useful level of ability last season and represents the Newmarket yard of trainer William Haggas, who sent out winners on Thursday at Beverley, Southwell and Yarmouth.
Darryll Holland takes the mount on Pressure Putt, who is selected to follow in the hoof-prints of his stablemates and start his season in style.
Rippling River ought to prove hard to beat in the opening European Breeders' Fund Maiden Stakes.
William Jarvis's juvenile has finished second in both his outings to date and is overdue a winning turn. His experience should stand him in good stead on this tricky course and he can come home in front under Alan Munro.
At Ludlow, tomorrow's only other meeting, the booking of Tony McCoy for Lord Dundaniel in the £12,500 totesport.com Handicap Chase looks significant and the Ben de Haan-trained gelding should not be underestimated.
Tom O'Ryan's tips for tomorrow racing are:
Wetherby
4.05 Darina's Boy (Nap)
5.15 Jodante
5.45 Colway Ritz
Brighton
2.10 Rippling River
3.55 Pressure Putt
Ludlow
3.45 Lord Dundaniel
