WHILE all true York City supporters acknowledge Billy McEwan's passion and commitment in turning round the club's fortunes on what appears to be very limited resources, his treatment of Dave Merris has to be the mystery of the season.
In the view of many fans, Merris is the best left-sided wing-back in the entire Conference and yet McEwan has consistently omitted him from a side with such a glaring weakness in this specialised position.
The writing was clearly on the wall for Merris from the onset of the current campaign when, despite being last season's player of the year, he was allocated squad number 15 and Nathan Peat, a McEwan capture, number 3, and from thenceforward consistently omitted from the starting line-up for the entire season.
Let us hope that next season Billy will rectify the situation as I, along with many other supporters of the club, will be extremely disillusioned if Merris be allowed to leave KitKat Crescent for pastures new.
