The reported upsurge in support for the BNP is simple to explain. The keyword is "simple".
Let's consider modern life. Communications? Simple - what can't you do on your mobile? Shopping? Simple - supermarkets open 24/7, free home delivery: no problem. Foreign holidays? Simple - no frills, cheap airlines. More money? Simple: have another store card, and no questions asked.
Feel like some pleasure? Simple - pubs open all hours and enough porno images readily available to sate even de Sade.
Thus, why can't politics be simple too? The BNP with its simple "Lock 'em up or send 'em back" credo offers a seemingly simple solution.
I am certainly no supporter of the BNP, but the challenge for all the other parties is to explain why their carefully considered, complexly crafted shades-of-grey policies are applicable to a consumer world where solutions are increasingly black and white (no pun intended).
