CYBERSPACE and The Press teamed up to complete a reunion jigsaw for Sheriff Hutton Football Club.
A grand gathering for the York and District League team, which enjoyed silverware-laden success in the 1960s and early 1970s, drew more than 80 former players, officials and fans to Haxby's Cottage Inn.
Players from as far afield as Bristol, Brighton, Peterborough, South Wales and Durham attended the event, including David Pearson and Ian Forsdyke, who had not been seen for more than three decades.
But the evening's biggest surprise was the appearance of centre-back Roy Lofkin. No-one knew of his whereabouts and an appeal was launched by The Press.
That story, plus some searching on the Internet by Chloe Shipley, daughter of reunion organiser Barrie Shipley, located the elusive Lofkin, who attended the dinner with his wife Ginny to the surprise of his former club-mates.
The Sheriff Hutton FC get-together is to be held on a yearly basis. Anyone interested can contact Barrie Shipley on York 761809.
