I REFER to the article "Campus Running Out Of Room" (The Press, May 1).

Before we allow the university to go ahead and build on very precious green land, I would urge a word of caution.

The established UK education facilities are on a roll at the moment with foreign students paying top prices to be educated here. This leads to universities like York needing to expand their premises.

The long-term future will not be able to sustain these very expensive UK universities as world demand and world prices will mean education establishments in other parts of the world opening in competition offering the same education at a lower price.

Evidence of this is right on our doorstep; Terry's chocolate is not made in York, but in a cheaper part of the world.

The University of York will then be left with empty buildings no longer needed for education, but of course the property will be worth a fortune as development land! The former green belt land has been lost forever.
