I NOTE the proposal by York Racecourse to charge for car parking at future race meetings.
Exactly which part of the Knavesmire are they referring to?
I would like to see an inch-perfect map of the area showing where Micklegate Stray ends and York Racecourse starts.
I was under the impression that the Freemen of York (ie pasturemasters) had the say in what does and does not take place on the York Strays.

THE idea of charging racegoers for parking at meetings is a good
one, but I feel that this will cause a problem for local residents, as people who do not want to pay will just park on the local streets, making it even harder for local residents to park.
The streets of South Bank already have to cope with racegoers even though the council put in restrictions for Ascot and subsequent races but we still get many cars parking on our streets. I myself live in Albemarle Road and on race days without the restrictions I just won't use my car, as when I return the street will be clogged with racegoers' cars. If they are charging for parking for races, put the restrictions on South Bank access, as already successfully used for all race meetings, and let residents enjoy trouble-free parking and access.
