OPENER Dan Broadbent scored a century as York piled up the runs against Rotherham at Clifton Park on Saturday.

The Yorkshire ECB Premier League fixture got off to a delayed start because of rain and the match was reduced to 90 overs.

York skipper Marcus Wood won the toss and elected to bat and his side soon made up for lost time.

Steve Piercy and Broadbent provided an excellent platform with an opening stand of 145. Piercy was dominant, hitting 82 off only 80 balls with 11 boundaries including a six.

After he went, Australian Dan Wilson chipped in with 31 and Nick Kay 20 as York continued to plunder the Rotherham attack on their way to 284-4.

Broadbent held firm to carry his bat for an unbeaten 104 which included ten fours and a six and came of 138 deliveries.

Rotherham's reply was effectively terminated in the first 11 overs.

After Duncan Snell had caught Alex Welsh in front of his stumps, paceman Nick Thornicroft found his radar. He had Afaq Raheem caught behind and, next over, dismissed Shoaib Yousuf and Shaaiq Choudhry.

This left the visitors requiring 239 off 34 overs but they dug in and batted comfortably enough against York's second line bowlers.

They never really threatened an upset, finishing on 200-7 with Nathan Smith undefeated with 43. Thornicroft finished with 3-38 as Wood used eight bowlers in an effort to winkle out the South Yorkshire visitors.

The match at Clifton Park was one of only three YL games to beat the weather on Saturday.

The Sheffield derby went ahead with Collegiate beating United by three wickets.

Chasing 175 to win, Collegiate got there on the back of Nick Gaywood's 80 despite Tom Fletcher's magnificent haul of 6-67.

Surprise package Hull maintained their fine start to the season by defeating Barnsley.
