YORK'S wheelie bin shortage was set to ease today with the expected delivery of fresh supplies to the council.
The Press revealed last week how about 180 households whose grey bins had been damaged were left for weeks without a replacement, because City of York Council had run out of stocks. The council, which had 1,000 larger grey bins in storage on an industrial estate at Hessay, said residents could not have one of them because they were only entitled to standard size ones.
Coun Andrew Waller, the authority's environment boss, said he had been advised new bins were due to arrive today.
"We are pledged to ensure that all residents who are currently without a bin will have one within the next two weeks," he said.
"Residents will be able to pick them up from Foss Islands Depot if they quote the reference number which the York Pride Action Line will provide them with. Otherwise, we are happy to deliver to homes."
