I WAS interested to read Coun Ann Reid's letter in the Saturday edition of The Press about the closure of the Bus Info office on George Hudson Street. She does not tell us what is going to happen to Dial-a-Ride when this office closes.
At present, bookings for Dial-a-Ride service are taken at this office, a member of our staff is based there and out-of-hours calls are taken by Bus Info staff. Dial-a-Ride drivers pick up their customer collection lists from this office and return cash taken on the buses.
As yet these people have not been told what alternative systems are to be put in place, despite the closure of the office on June 1. This is appalling.
The council is supposed to be working in partnership with York Wheels to provide this vital service. Staff and trustees at York Wheels have been trying to find out what alternative systems will be in place since the closure was agreed as a budget cut last February, but to no avail.
There are only 16 days to go before closure of the office and we are still waiting for this vital information.
Chair of trustees,
York Wheels,
Chaucer Street,
