RALPH Butterfield emerged victorious from the 66 teams that took part in this year's York City Knights Primary Schools Tag Rugby Festival.
The Haxby school beat Wheldrake 4-0 on golden points after normal time had failed to separate the two teams in the final.
Butterfield's win came during the climax of a finals day held before Knights' home match with Leigh Centurions on Sunday. A total of 16 eight-a-side teams played at Huntington Stadium having qualified from five heats.
Butterfield, Wheldrake and Wood-thorpe topped their groups to reach the last four of the competition and they were joined in the semi-finals by St Mary's on the toss of a coin.
St Mary's and Wigginton had earlier tied at the top of their group and a ten-minute play-off game could still not determine a winner.
Butterfield went on to beat Saints 8-0 to book their final place and Whel-drake overcame Woodthorpe 4-0.
The winners' shield was presented at half-time during Knights' National League One clash, when four schools also played in a tag display matches, while each child that participated in Sunday's event received a medal.
