MANOR Church of England School took advantage of a strong wind to lift the York and District Schools' League's Under-12s Cup.

The Poppleton Lane pupils managed to keep opponents Archbishop Holgate School at bay despite playing against the elements during a difficult first half, with a goal-line clearance from Danny Woodall ensuring Manor stayed on level terms going into the interval.

Ben Locke and Tom Kite then struck either side of a Jacob Gore penalty as Manor produced a whirlwind second-half performance to clinch a 3-0 victory at York City's Wigginton Road training ground.

Canon Lee triumphed 3-2 against Selby High in the York and District Schools' Under-15 Cup final.

The Clifton Without school dominated the first half and led 2-1 at the interval, Lois Blackwell being on target for Selby in between two Canon goals.

Selby improved after the break, only to see Canon extend their lead, and they were the better side for the last half-hour.

However, despite hitting the woodwork twice, they only had another Blackwell goal to show for their efforts.
