After the recent record-breaking exploits on many local fisheries this weekend should see a return to normality.
With water temperatures now below the seasonal norm spawning activity will have been put on temporary hold so at least the fish will not be preoccupied with their annual nuptials.
Good catches had been reported off the surface at Carpvale and Raker Lakes, where bags of 100lbs-plus were a regular occurrence.
Fish should be feeding back on the bottom this weekend with smaller baits such as maggot, corn or pellet likely to outscore meat and paste-based offerings.
The local canal network seems to have benefited from the extra water with added colour and movement sparking some interest in both Selby and Pocklington Canals.
The former venue seems to be getting well fished already and even at this early stage looks to be a smart acquisition by the Amalgamation. The water is now available for match bookings.
The jointly-leased fishery on the Aire and Calder Canal around Pollington is also available for York members to book for matches. Bookings can be made by York book-holders direct to Trevor Banks on 01405 860210.
The only match booking this weekend sees the CIU tackle Park View Lake tomorrow.
Further reports of various acts of unruly behaviour during the evening have been reported from the car park area at the Sand Hutton venue and York members are requested to report any dodgy activities to the authorities.
Some anglers have been carrying out their own bank works to create new pegs. Although there are not enough pegs at the fishery, more platforms are planned before the new season starts.
Weekend bookings
Tomorrow: Park View Lake - York CIU Angling section. Sunday: Laybourne Lakes (Marley, all pegs pool closed) - Y and DAA Late Spring match; Park View Lake - Burton Stone Lane WMC AC.
