A FEW weeks ago, I visited the post office in Lendal and queued for more than half an hour to be served. There were ten positions along the counter, with two being used for foreign money and one for paying bills.

That wouldn’t have been so bad, but there were only four of the remaining seven positions open, and it was car tax week.

I wrote to customer complaints and received a book of stamps for my inconvenience. I would point out that I do not want a book of stamps, just better service.

However, a friend visited this post office on Saturday and the situation was almost as bad.

Having brought this to the attention of both the manager of the post office and the customer complaints I would have thought that something would have been done to alleviate this delay.

I do not think a book of stamps goes anywhere to making customers happy, but suggest that if your readers are unhappy that they write and if the post office has to deal with lots of letters, maybe they will do something about it. Maybe the writer will also get a book of stamps!

I spoke to an assistant in the post office who was their saving grace, as she was extremely pleasant, so please say a big thank-you to her.
