CHILDREN can learn about planting seeds at workshops at Poppleton Garden Centre, near York, next weekend.

The centre on Northfield Lane, Upper Poppleton, is offering youngsters the chance to create “cress heads” and pot a marrow or bean seed which they can then take home and watch grow.

The workshops, which are free including the cost of materials, will run for an hour from 10.30am and 2.30pm on Saturday and Sunday. All children must be accompanied by an adult.

Michael Parker, garden centre manager, said: “Gardening and in particular growing your own vegetables and salads is a great hobby. It encourages physical activity and helps teach youngsters about where their food comes from.”
