TUNES of glory at Troon are summoning Emma Brown to hit the high road and the heights.

North Yorkshire’s most successful women’s amateur golfer opens her competitive year next month with the Scottish Open at the lauded links circuit of Troon, which is one of her most favourite courses.

Brown was crowned Scottish ladies champion there in the year 2000, when she went by her maiden name of Duggleby.

She has also finished runner-up twice in the championships held each year on the Ayrshire links course and last year she was third.

Said Brown, who is the clubhouse manager at Sandburn Hall Golf club: “I really like Troon.

“It’s great to play a decent links course so early in the season because you know the greens will run true.

“I’ve also managed to do well there in the past so I’m looking forward to going back.”

Brown, who still plays out of Malton & Norton GC, has spent the winter training, including fine-tuning her backswing with the aid of Sandburn Hall GC’s head professional Steve Robinson.

“I’ve been working on a few things on the backswing with Steve so that I can stay consistent throughout the entire season.”

Her campaign will also feature an assault on the Yorkshire Ladies’ Champion ship which for the first time will staged at her home course of Malton & Norton as part of the club’s centenary celebrations.

“It’s going to be a bit strange to be playing in such a big event at my own home course, but hopefully I can take advantage of knowing the course so well.”

York Golf Club’s offer of membership without a joining fee has proved so successful it will be withdrawn at the end of April.

There are still a limited number of memberships available but from May 1 onwards a full joining fee will be payable.
