ONE of the Conservatives’ top politicians has visited York to back the bid for success by one of his party’s candidates.
Shadow Home Secretary Chris Grayling was given a tour of a play park in the city which has been targeted by yobs and graffiti artists as he arrived to lend support to Julian Sturdy, who is standing for the Tories in the crucial York Outer seat.
He also joined Mr Sturdy’s campaign trail and spoke to residents in the Rawcliffe area about their concerns over antisocial behaviour and other issues with just days left to go before the General Election is decided.
Mr Sturdy said: “I’m delighted Chris has come to York and it emphasises the importance of the York Outer seat to the Conservatives, because it is the sort of seat we have to win if we are to form the next Government.
“Antisocial behaviour is something which is brought up a lot on the doorstep while campaigning and Chris wants to hear people’s views and concerns and feed them back so the appropriate action can be taken. We have to make sure we are tough on crime.”
