THE heat of the General Election is enough to raise any candidate’s blood pressure.
Hugh Bayley, who is contesting the York Central seat for Labour in tomorrow’s poll, took the chance to get himself checked out during a visit to a pharmacy in the city.
He also spoke to pharmacist Elliot Goran and David Gill, who chairs the Yorkshire Pharmaceutical Committee, at Badger Hill Pharmacy in Yarburgh Way about issues affecting such businesses in the city.
Mr Bayley said: “Labour’s record investment in the NHS has made a huge difference and deaths in York from strokes and heart disease have been halved in the past ten years. Pharmacies are playing a big part in reducing the burden of disease by offering health checks in addition to their traditional role of dispensing prescriptions.
“They are often the first port of call when somebody is ill because you don’t need an appointment, but you still get advice and medicine if you need it from a trained professional.”
