THESE boots were not made for walking, but for raising awareness on one of the most common terminal illnesses that affects the UK.

The world’s largest trainer, UK size 454 sports shoe, which is touring the UK, appeared at Tesco Extra, Clifton Moor, York, yesterday in support of Cancer Research UK’s Race for Life.

This is the retailer’s biggest national fundraising scheme ever and they will be collecting donations in aid of the charity, as well as signatures on the trainer as it goes on its journey. The Guinness Book of World Records has officially authenticated the Cancer Research trainer as the world’s biggest trainer.

It weighs about 150kg, with an 18-metre long blue lace, and anyone who would fit into this colossal shoe would be approximately 26.7m tall with 11m long strides.

For anyone wearing the trainer it would take them 454 strides to cover a Race For Life’s 5k track, compared with 7,246 for an female with average UK size five feet.
