BOSSES at Flamingo Land have stressed no one’s safety was put at risk when riders on a rollercoaster car were left hanging upside down.
They have also offered a complimentary stay in a luxury log cabin and a meal in the theme park’s best restaurant as a good-will gesture.
The Press revealed earlier this week how thrill-seekers were left dangling 50 ft above the ground when cars on the Mumbo Jumbo ride stalled after a poncho became stuck in the mechanism.
Yesterday, Emma Johnson, 26, and her ten-year-old sister, Amy, told how frightened they had been, saying they were still getting flashbacks.
Now Elliot Richards, park executive at the theme park near Pickering, said ride breakdowns were sometimes an unavoidable fact when operating precision equipment.
“Mumbo Jumbo is an extremely advanced ride and its safety systems are of the highest order,” he said.
“Flamingo Land deeply regrets the freak occurrence which lead to a plastic poncho becoming entangled in Mumbo Jumbo’s drive mechanism, but would like to emphasise no one’s safety was at risk during this occurrence.”
Of the offer to Emma and Amy, Mr Richards said: “We hope we can restore their faith in the theme park and hopefully encourage them to fully experience the world’s steepest roller coaster, Mumbo Jumbo.”
