A ROW has broken out after council chiefs implemented a controversial waste collection policy.
Rear alleys behind Beaconsfield and Gladstone Streets in Acomb, York, have seen rubbish sacks pile up after the council failed to collect them last week.
Labour councillor Ken King said the new collection policy was going very badly. He said: “Refuse has been piling up and been left uncollected after residents put it out as advised by the council. It seems the rollout of this new collection policy is going about as well as when the fortnightly refuse collections were brought in – very badly.”
The problems come just weeks after similar problems were experienced by residents in Holgate ward.
Coun Ann Reid, City of York Council’s executive member for neighbourhood services, said new collection policies had led to some confusion among residents.
She said: “Beaconsfield and Gladstone Streets have changed to front of property collections, but some residents have been leaving refuse in the back lane.
“The council has been deploying extra resources in the area where we have introduced recycling to ensure that the streets are cleared of rubbish.”
