TWO birdies in the final two holes gave Simon Dyson hope following a difficult first round at the BMW Italian Open.
The Malton and Norton Golf Club ace carded a calamitous 76 at the Royal Park I Roveri in an opening round which was delayed by two hours because of heavy rain at the Turin course.
Starting on the tenth, Dyson actually birdied his second hole – the par five 11th, but dropped shots at 14 and 16 left him one over par at the half-way mark.
It got worse when a bogey at the second was followed by a treble bogey six at the par three fourth and another dropped shot at the seventh. But Dyson showed true Yorkshire grit to pick up shots at the eighth and ninth and finish the round at four over par.
