WHILE most voters turned out to community halls, churches and schools to cast their vote, some polling stations were in less orthodox surroundings.
In Knapton, west of York, villagers were able to combine their democratic duty with a trip to the local – their polling station was in the car park of the village pub, the Red Lion.
Landlady Annie Prescott said there had been “a trickle” of people, but not as many as at previous elections.
But she said there had been additional bookings for last night, and she thought some people may have voted after work, then stayed at the pub for a meal. She said: “It’s a good idea for people to make the effort to vote and not waste their vote.” Elsewhere in North Yorkshire, voters in Biggin, near Selby, cast their votes in a caravan in the village.
