EMERGENCY services were called to rescue a man from the River Ouse on Friday night.
A police van, fire engine, ambulance and ambulance response car were called to Lendal Bridge just before 7pm after a member of the public reported a man was in the river.
Firefighters confirmed the unidentified man had been rescued from the river by the time they arrived, after a member of the public threw him an emergency life saving ring.
The man was reported to have had a cut on his arm but it was not known if this happened before or after he entered the river.
Police on the scene said it was not clear how the man, said to be middle-aged, had ended up in the river.
The man was treated by paramedics at the scene before being taken to York Hospital for further treatment.
