A YORK choir has disbanded after 19 years.
About 25 former members of the Parish Singers travelled from across the UK to attend a final choral evensong and reunion held at St Chad’s Church, York.
Mary Batchelor, wife of the choir’s director, Robert Batchelor, said: “The final evensong and reunion went very well and nobody wanted to see the choir close, but we were down to only ten members.”
The choir was formed in 1991 to sing a monthly evensong at Holy Trinity, Micklegate and weekday masses at St Mary’s, Bishophill Junior, but there has been a decline in the number of events the choir attends.
Mrs Batchelor said: “It’s just one of those things now. Churches aren’t having evensongs, but we all left interested in meeting up and singing again.”
