York Acorn ARLC Under-11s put on a fantastic display of free-flowing rugby league to beat Townville 48-0.

Man-of-the-match Jack Wyard led the way with four tries as Acorn showed off all their skills and ball handling, taking the Townville team apart – and taking most of their opportunities.

Good passing and great defensive work, led by top tackler Owen Levers, also kept Townville to nil.

Other try-scorers were Reece Maynard (2), Kieran Levers, the opposition’s choice of man of the match Dalton Brolly, Thomas Atkin and Nathan Shepherd.

The coaches’ player of the match was Jacob Sanderson.

Neither New Earswick U10s nor Hunslet Parkside deserved to lose a cracking game – and neither did, in a 32-32 draw.

Jimmy Piggot crossed twice and converted one for All Blacks, and Joe Crampton showed great pace to add another. Ewen Coverdale also scored as the game swung this way and that.

The opposition’s choice of man of the match, Josh Ireland, scored an excellent effort and conversion, before most improved player Adam Winter-Rhodes beat at least four tackles from half-way to somehow reach the line and add a fantastic goal.

Thomas Noble, the ‘team player’, earned a try with his rugged play, while Daniel Craven was outstanding in defence and debutant Martin Handsley impressed.

Harry Suter’s non-stop tackling earned him the man-of-the-match award. He also added a conversion.

Stand-off Sam Young inspired Heworth U10s to a 44-16 victory at Hunslet Warriors.

His man-of-the-match performance was capped with a try, after he had set three others up.

Shay North topped the tackle count, scored a try and set one up as he scooped the team player award.

Josh Rogerson, the opponent’s pick of man of the match, scored a hat-trick, two from great support play as Young put him clear.

Arron McBride won the ‘most expressive player’ award for thunderous tackling and was supported in defence by Kieren Costanzo and Henri Grimbley.

Cain North, back from injury, drove the ball in well to earn the ‘man of steel’ accolade, while Harry Sheppeard’s solid defence was rewarded with two tries.

Joshua Kelly scored a hat-trick as New Earswick U8s gave another fine display against Beeston Broncos.

Ellena Powell, Lewis Young and Robbie Gibb-Kirk also crossed, Young receiving the ‘magic moment’ accolade for his full-length try.

Young and Kelly were the men of the match, while Ryan Craft was the most improved, Gibb-Kirk the top tackler and Joe Harrison the rising star.
