SESSIONS ‘A’ dismissed Bootham ‘A’ 9-1 in division one of the NEDL York and District Table Tennis League – but it was not enough to stop Coneysthorpe ‘A’ sealing the title for the first time in their history, writes John Temple.

Coneysthorpe overcame a determined Railway ‘A’ 6-4, with Martin Lowe winning his singles.

Shepherds ‘A’ edged out Bootham ‘A’ 6-4 with James Atkins in top form.

Tim Ang was unbeaten but University ‘A’ went down 6-4 to Holgate ‘B’.

There was a dramatic conclusion to the relegation battle in division two.

Needing three points to avoid the drop, Holgate ‘D’ trailed 7-2 against Holgate ‘C’, but won the doubles to guarantee safety.

Ed Wardman and John Eastwood won their singles for the ‘C’ team, though they crashed 9-1 to Bootham ‘C’, for whom Mike Cooper and Dave Rawlings shone.

Rawlings also guided his side to a 7-3 win over Shepherds ‘B’, and Railway ‘B’ defeated Bootham ‘B’ by the same margin thanks to Luke Blackburn.

Bootham ‘D’ won promotion to division two as they edged out champions Shepherds ‘C’, with Richard Collyer the star.

Shepherds ‘C’ had earlier whitewashed Railway ‘D’, while BT ‘B’ and Aviva ‘A’ drew.

Steve Potter won his singles but it was not enough to help Holgate ‘E’ defeat Shepherds ‘E’ as they too drew, before going down 6-4 to Shepherds ‘D’.

In division four, Railway ‘G’ overcame Holgate ‘G’ 7-3. Steve Wands helped a two-man Holgate ‘F’ to a draw with Railway ‘E’.
