Just as the decision to go ahead with converting the West Offices into the new base for City of York Council is to be made, almost on cue, two heritage societies, the York Georgian Society and the Yorkshire Architectural and York Archaeological Society, once again., raise the spectre of whether the “heritage” of the original building will be preserved.
There is apparently overwhelming public support for the scheme. The “heritage” societies have had their views listened to for previous schemes, which have led to the present West Offices proposed development.
Let the project be proceeded with, which promises to retain the building’s heritage.
As The Press Comment said on May 4, don’t let the past stifle the present – or the future.
