SOME of York’s best-known pubs and bars could be sold, after national property firms announced a property cull.
The Golden Lion, in Church Street, and The Knavesmire, in South Bank, have been put up for sale by Punch Taverns, priced at £1.25 million and £850,000 respectively.
Several others could follow, after Mitchells & Butlers said it was to concentrate on its food led pubs, placing more emphasis on chains such as Harvester and Toby Carvery. Industry sources have said the firm may look to offload several of its other chains, including Reflex, Flares, O’Neill and Scream, all of which have branches in York.
Mitchells & Butlers has so far remained tight-lipped on its plans.
