HE MIGHT live 10,000 miles away in Australia, but life-long City fan Chris Miller will not be missing out on his club’s bid for glory at Wembley this Sunday.

The 28-year-old has booked his flights to return to England for the first time since he emigrated down under 18 months ago.

Chris, whose dad took him to his first City game at the age of two, has spent more than £1,000 on the trip – but says every penny will be worth it.

He said he was confident City would win against Oxford United in the Blue Square Premier play-off final and secure the club’s return to the Football League.“York City runs through the blood in my family and my family still has a massive involvement,” he said.

Chris’s grandfather, Jack Miller, was the club’s first commercial manager, while his brother-in-law, Ross Potter, is City’s general manager, and his sister, Mandy Causer, also works for the club.

Four City players – Jimmy Sangare, Chris Caruthers, Luke Graham and Courtney Pitt – also rent rooms from his father. “I’m very excited,”

he said. “But also gutted I’ve missed out on one of the best seasons we’ve had since 1993, when we went to Wembley to play Crewe. I used to go to most away games and all home games and seen some terrible seasons, so this is such a refreshing change.”

Chris, who lives in Brisbane with his wife, Gemma, said: “I have a very understanding wife who married two things – myself and my passion for York City. To be honest, she hates football, but always pretends she’s interested.

“She isn’t coming because of work commitments (and the fact she hates football) so this 60-hour journey is going to be very lonely.”
