Hugh Bayley, Labour MP for York Central, has thrown his weight behind David Miliband to be the next leader of the Labour party.
He said Gordon Brown was right to stand down and said: “The Labour party needs to face up to the fact that our policies were rejected by the electorate in the General Election and work out what it is that the public didn’t like and address those problems.”
He said he thought David Miliband was the most able to achieve this.
“We have got a lot of ability among our younger ministers and I think he’s the best of the lot and better able than anybody else in my view to face the reality that Labour policy needs to change.
“He is very clever and looks strategically across the whole range of Government.
“He wrote the winning manifestos when Labour was winning elections. I think he’s the most creative member within the Labour party.”`
