WHATEVER happened to our democratic right to vote – surely it is up to us, the voters, who to have elected in Parliament, hung or otherwise?
I find it a farce that it is up to Nick Clegg to decide which party he is going to work with and, ultimately, who will run the country.
However, this could be a start of a political evolution. If the Lib Dems get their way, the next step might be proportional representation; a jolt in the right direction.
With more political choice, the electorate might have a thirst for more concise knowledge of politics and become better educated.
Politicians patting babies on the head for votes might find this does not appeal to a more enlightened public. And then who knows where it all might lead?
Wouldn’t it be great if the next evolutionary Parliamentary step was that we could vote on policies that our elected parties could offer, rather than who sings the sweetest song?
