FORGET the World Cup in South Africa, the real football stars of the future showed off their skills at the annual Wigginton Football Tournament.
Ninety-nine teams, ranging in age from six to 14, took part in the three-day event held at Wigginton playing fields, York, home of Wigginton Grasshoppers.
Apart from the home club teams, there were young players from across the city and North Yorkshire including Hamilton Panthers, Haxby, Rawcliffe, Strensall, Poppleton, Wheldrake, Fulford, Thirsk Falcons and Northallerton.
The North-East was heavily represented, as usual, with coach loads of teams and parents coming from as far a field as Gateshead and Stockton-on-Tees.
Each child went home with a commemorative medal from the tournament, the main fundraising event of the year for the Grasshoppers.
