York City fans are arriving at Wembley in their droves for today's crunch play-off final clash with Oxford United.

About 9,000 of the Minstermen's followers have headed to the famous arena to roar on Martin Foyle's men as they bid to overcome Oxford United and return to the Football League after a six-year absence.

The travelling army made their way to London early today on a string of trains and 24 coaches run by the official York City Supporters' Club, and are now taking their seats ahead of the Blue Square Premier play-off showdown, which kicks off at 5pm.

Sara Wood, 27, from Acomb, York, predicted a 2-0 victory for City and said: "This time last season, who would have put us here?

"Our fans are outnumbered, but we will outsing Oxford - we are louder and prouder."

Chris Bowman, 20, from Linton-on-Ouse, also went for a City win, this time forecasting a 2-1 triumph, and said: "They are the underdogs, but we have the confidence and we have got to believe.

"Richard Brodie has got to deliver today."

And Dave Wilkes, 43, from Holgate, York, said: "After beating Luton in the semi-final, when not too many people outside the club gave us a chance, we really do believe that this is the day we get back into the league.

"It would make so many things possible for the club and could be the start of something really big, because we have a fantastic team, a fantastic manager and a brilliant set of fans. City don't belong in non-league football and I'm sure we won't be there after today.

"And it's amazing to be back at Wembley for the second year in a row. Some clubs' fans go a lifetime without ever getting there, so we're relishing the fact that we're here again - and the experience we've now got of the place could make a real difference."

Phil Hutchinson, 42, of Rawcliffe, at the game with his son Jack, seven, predicted a 1-0 win for York.

Rob Kilby of Bishopthorpe said: "It's been an excellent season after the turmoil of last year."

And Les Doughty, 58, of Manchester, who has followed City for more than 40 years, said: "I expect us to win 2-0, with Brodie and Rankine scoring."
