LAST week, mindful of York City’s impending Wembley play-off final, we carried a series of stunning historical photographs showing past City teams in action.

With the present team’s exploits at Wembley yesterday still fresh in the mind, it seemed a good idea to run some more historic photos today.

There are a wealth of stunning team and action photographs in The Press’s archive. Here we have got room for just a few of them. But we hope they do at least some justice to the club’s history of more than 100 years of history.

Our pictures today show:

•York City FC in training, August 1947. Pictured from left to right are: Browne, Jackson, Allen, Rudd, M Patrick, Bradley, Lee and Butt

•City in action at home against Tranmere Rovers on January 31, 1948. York lost the game 2-1
