The biggest gaping hole in the results of the election is the inability of our politicians to deliver what we, the majority, see as essential to our national progress.

The two biggest parties don’t want it because what they have has sustained them as the privileged class for so long they are addicted and can’t live without it.

The third party has been shown to be too weak to grasp it, so it takes alternative routes just to stay relevant.

We are left struggling in a more competitive world because of this, and the people are still powerless to do anything about it.

The main parties still fight for the largest pickings on our table while our international standing falls.

When will we ever get power for the vast majority to change all this?

I can’t see it in the near future, and it makes me sad. There is so much potential talent and positive energy lying wasted.

George Appleby, Clifton, York.
