Dunnington are the early pacesetters in division one of the IT Sports Mixed Doubles Tennis League.

Dunnington, who eased past Castlegarth in their first game, inflicted defeat on reigning champions York with the new partnership of Karen Mitchell and Dave Walton winning all three rubbers against York.

York had earlier won their opener against Fulford.

Bubwith lost out in a closely-fought battle of the promoted sides, going down to York 3.

Relegated Fulford have started with two big wins in division two. They beat Wheldrake and then Jill McCreedy and Nigel Skelton won 31 games against Copmanthorpe.

Rowntree Park are the only other unbeaten team, led by A Thanerat and Sandra Pauw.

Catherine Baker and Patrick Evans ensured promoted Rufforth started with a win over Poppleton.

In division three, Dunnington’s Nicola Loten and Mike Taylor were the week’s top scorers as their side beat Appleton Roebuck and Wilberfoss.

The match between Civil Service and Sherburn threw up the season’s first draw.

Louise Haritakis and Ben Leftwich were Heworth’s match-winners against Stillington in division four. Heworth also beat Civil Service.

Promoted David Lloyd 1 are the early leaders in division five. They have two wins in the bag, thanks to Sarah Smelik and Paul Adams winning 30 and 31 games.

Cliffe are their closest rivals as the only other unbeaten side, with Kelly Holmes and Dave Tomlinson impressing so far.

Promoted Alne started their division seven campaign with a win at York, winning all nine rubbers, while Wigginton toppled Sutton-on-Derwent.

All three couples scored 29 games for Bishopthorpe in division eight when they beat Copmanthorpe.

Andrene Watson and Richard Crabtree won 30 games when Bishopthorpe trounced Sheriff Hutton.

Poppleton also have two wins, over Tadcaster and Copmanthorpe.
