INCH by inch, foot by foot, yard by yard, hour by hour, day by day, week by week, month by month, the disruption squad has crept along Fulford Road – to what end?
The chaos that has been caused over the past months will be nothing compared with the misery that the new roads marking will create.
In order to make a bus lane that is only a couple of hundred yards long, the planners will have caused chaos for anyone driving from York who needs to turn right into Iceland supermarket, and for people driving towards York who need to turn left into the Army camp.
The planners should be removed from their jobs before they can waste more money and do more damage.
Derek Martin, Fulford Road, York.
A City of York Council spokeswoman said: “The council recognised that providing an inbound bus lane would result in the loss of right turn lanes along this section of Fulford Road.
“However, it was felt that the benefits the bus lane would provide would outweigh any inconvenience caused by additional queuing.
“Motorists turning right from Fulford Road will be able to make use of gaps in traffic in the opposite direction.
“The effects of the scheme will be monitored to assess whether any changes or additional measures are needed.”
