I write further to the article “Labour leader ousted” (The Press, May 6), and would like to thank those who sent to me their thanks for my work as leader of the Labour group.
I am proud to belong to a democratic party, and while I am disappointed to no longer be the leader of the group, those who have been involved in politics will know that if you put yourself forward for election there will be times when you do not win.
I did not become a councillor to become the leader of the group. I am not a career politician. I became a councillor to help the residents of Clifton and promote the city; to give something back. That desire has not gone away.
I will continue to hold this failing Lib-Dem council to account. I will continue to campaign for community access to the Barbican, a community stadium for York, a city-centre swimming pool and the promotion of our great city as being open for business. I will continue to highlight their waste and the opportunities they miss.
I may no longer be leader of the Labour group, but my passion for this city and the need to show the Labour difference remains.
David Scott, Labour councillor for Clifton, Sandringham Street, York.
