IT is not the first time that Aled Jones has aired his scaremongering views on climate change and the weather (...or cold comfort, Letters, May 17).

I well remember one Easter Monday, about 60 years ago, when horses got down to the start for a three-mile chase at Wetherby Races in a snowstorm.

The starter sent the horses back to the paddock and the meeting was abandoned.

I also remember the first May race meeting at Beverley being abandoned because of snow; that was 20 years ago.

As long as we are living on this planet we will encounter some sort of weather – wind, rain, frost and snow and sunshine.

Whatever comes, try and enjoy it Aled, and stop worrying; every day you can rise and get your wellies on, you are a millionaire.

Ken Holmes, Cliffe Common, Selby.

• I have to disagree with Aled Jones concerning the old saying.

The May referred to is the May blossom, not the month. Makes more sense, don’t you think?

• I REFER to the letter in The Press on May 17 (...or cold comfort).

I remember my husband’s brother got married in 1955 in June, and it snowed that day. We got married the following year on June 9 and it was dreadful; it was just like March.

We had dreadful winds, which blew my veil all over and my dress. It was freezing cold and the sky was black.
