I WRITE with reference to the Ancient Order of Stray Masters and developments on Monk Stray.
In recent correspondence with City of York Council over the licensing of Monk Stray for live entertainment events at which alcohol will be sold, and again in council minutes, the Stray Masters crop up, anonymously, as stakeholders to be consulted.
This is clearly right and proper, but who are the Stray Masters, how many of them are there, how are they appointed and on whose behalf do they speak?
Most important of all, how may they be contacted and how might they represent the opinions of those alarmed by the council’s proposals for the stray? They appear to have no website.
Many residents around Monk Stray who are opposed to the council’s proposal for this historic open space would like to hear from them or be able to contact them.
