WHOLE Lotta Love and Stairway To Heaven are among the most revered rock classics of all time. One has to be supremely confident and extraordinarily gifted to carry off material of such stature with any dignity.
Yet Mary J Blige socks a punch like a world class welter-weight with two stunning performances, both worthy of a Grammy. Overseeing production, rock aristocracy Stevie Vai and Randy Jackson ensure that the most devout Led Zeppelin purist can admire the magnificence of this breathtaking and quite moving homage. Unfortunately, the rock covers sit uncomfortably against what is otherwise only an above average urban R&B set, superbly performed, but lacking in substance.
