THE Hunters York & District Senior Cricket League opened their Joe Lumb Under-17s season with a six-wicket win over the Aire-Wharfe League at Guiseley.
Aire-Wharfe had a calamitous start when they were four wickets down for only nine runs after two overs.
The collapse was started by a magnificent run out, with a direct hit at the bowler’s end by Matt Dale.
The hosts then struggled against some accurate bowling to reach 60-6 before a stand of 101 by Durkin (73) and Maver (43) enabled them to reach 178 all out.
All the York bowlers performed well, with Ben England (4-35) and Jonny Moxon (3-43) the most successful.
York made a solid start with the bat and then Ryan McKendry (31) and Chris Bilton (37) increased the run rate.
That allowed Matt Hattee (42) and the rest of the middle order to seal victory with eight overs to spare.
The next match for York is against Huddersfield, last year’s runners-up, at Stamford Bridge on Sunday, May 30.
