A FOOTBALL tournament organised by two York sisters raised more than £1,000 for an orphanage in Kenya.
Natalie and Nicole Kirby, from Acomb, arranged the event to raise money for the Cherish Watoto and Kenya charity.
They heard about the charity last year through a colleague’s brother, who helps look after the children at the orphanage.
Natalie Kirby said: “We’re really really pleased about the amount of money raised. A big thank you to everyone involved. They were all very generous.”
The competition, which featured eight teams made up of residents in the local community, took place at the Energise sports centre.
The orphanage relies on donations to continue operating, and the money will be spent on essential items such as food and medical supplies for the children.
Natalie and Nicole hope to travel to Kenya soon to hand over the money to the orphanage themselves.
