DRIVERS can expect a smoother ride around York thanks to work to repair thousands of potholes.

Bosses at City of York Council say severe winter weather left 8,000 potholes requiring urgent attention, and two extra teams have been working to clear the backlog.

Between January and April, the authority’s Customer Contact Centre received double the normal number of highway maintenance queries.

In some cases, the initial repairs were done on a temporary basis, and efforts will now be focused on making these permanent, as well as targeting potholes on smaller estate roads. Anyone wanting to report a pothole should phone the council’s Customer Contact Centre on 01904 551551.
