POLICE are hunting a pair of armed robbers who left staff at a North Yorkshire shop terrified when they burst in brandishing a gun.

An armed response team was called to the scene of the raid in Chain Lane, Knaresborough, at about 5.50pm yesterday after the hooded duo walked in carrying a long-barrelled weapon.

North Yorkshire Police have yet to reveal whether anything was taken during the robbery, with the two raiders running off towards a nearby caravan park. Nobody was injured and the gun was not fired, but a spokesman for the force said staff at the store were left “shocked” and helicopters from Cleveland Police and West Yorkshire Police were brought in to join the hunt.

Following a search of the caravan park involving police dog teams, a man in his late teens has been arrested and is still being questioned in custody.

The robbers are both in their late teens and police say they would be particularly noticeable because they were wearing dark clothing and hoods on a hot day. Anybody with information should contact Harrogate CID on 0845 6060 247 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
