THE memory of Canadian airmen who lost their lives in the Second World War has been honoured in a North Yorkshire village.
A wreath was laid at the sundial memorial in Sutton-on-the-Forest on Saturday to commemorate members of the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) who were based at the nearby Eastmoor airfield.
Their losses between 1942 and 1946 equate to the village’s current population.
The service, organised by a group named the Eastmoor family, is held each May.
The event was attended by veterans of the conflict as well as representatives from the RCAF, North Yorkshire squadrons and representatives from RAF Leeming.
